Shallow water fishing has been great in the St. Pete Beach area the past yew days and should only improve as we get closer to the full moon. Low tides in the mornings have had the fish trapped in small pools. A stealthy approach has been the key but fast action has been the result. Sheephead, redfish, trout, and an occasional snook have been the normal species but each day we have caught some nice flounder as well. This is light tackle sport fishing at its best. Bring the family or just a buddy, this fishing is good for everyone.

St. Pete Beach Spring Report
The light tackle sport fishing that the St. Pete Beach area is known for is getting started with a bang. The sheephead have begun their march out to the Gulf in preparation to spawn and are hungry. These tasty critters are a strong fighters and a blast to catch. This is not the normal deep sea style fishing some are used to. This is casting free lined live baits to hungry predators in shallow water.
The sheephead are not the only thing biting! P
ompano, redfish, trout, and a few snook are all starting to appear after the long winters rest and are ready to fatten up before the summer spawn. All this action is great family fun and also will test your seasoned vet. Now is the time to get out and do some charter fishing!
Inshore Fishing at its Best
Inshore fishing has been red hot as of late. Cooler temperatures have had the speckled trout piled into canals around the St. Pete Beach area and large catches have been normal. These trout in the canals tend to be a bit larger than the ones on the flats and catching them on light tackle has been a blast. A few snook and redfish have been mixed in. Fishing in the protected areas makes it more comfortable and fun for the whole family.
Fall Snook Fishing Action
The snook fishing in the St. Pete Beach, Clearwater Beach area is red hot. The snook have just spawned and are feeding aggressively
in preparation for winter. These fish have been littered along the shorelines with redfish and trout mixed right in. With fast, line screaming runs they make for excellent light tackle fishing and are a blast to catch for anglers of all skill sets even young kids. If snook is your target, now is the time!
Inshore Redfish Fishing is on Fire
Redfish action is on fire from St. Pete Beach to Clearwater Beach. Large schools of hungry redfish have been roaming the flats each morning looking for something to eat. We have been locating the schools and then setting up in front of them and chumming. By adding the chum the fish have gone into a feeding frenzy making for fast, non-stop action. Using light tackle we have had some terrific sport fishing
with most the redfish being 25” to 40”. Mixed in the redfish have been snook, trout, and a few flounder. This is great fishing for familes and children as well.
St. Pete Beach Kingfish and Mackerel Fishing
The first few kingfish have hit St. Pete Beach this week and large numbers of spanish mackerel are with them. Big catches of spanish mackerel have been the norm on charters with a few kingfish bites mixed in. Both slow trolling and anchoring and chumming have been productive. While fishing for mackerel we have also been catching bonita, cobia, and large black tip spinner sharks in the 100 pound range. Light tackle fishing has allowed for excellent action for everyone including kids and families. Look for kingfish action to improve weekly but don’t hesitate to get out and enjoy some of the great light tackle sport-fishing in the Treasure Island, Maderia Beach, Redington Beach, Pass-a-
Grille, St. Pete Beach areas!
St. Pete Beach Snapper Fishing
Snapper fishing in the St. Pete Beach, Tampa Bay Area is top notch right now! This is not your typical offshore,
deep sea fishing trip that requires long boat rides and big waves. This is close to shore, light tackle, sport fishing. We have had great success the past few weeks chumming the snapper off the wrecks and up to the top of the water, once the fish are up high we down size our tackle and fish very light spinning rods with no weight. This type of fishing is visual and loads of fun.
While doing this we have also caught many grouper, cobia, mackerel, bonita, kingfish, and sharks. This near shore fishery is in great shape and has a ton of options for all anglers. This is also a great time to get the kids and family out for some great action and great eating fish.
St. Pete Beach Redfish Fishing
The redfish action in the St. Pete Beach, Redington Beach, Treasure Island, and Maderia Beach are is red hot. Large bunches of redfish are making their way from Tampa Bay out towards the Gulf and are hungry! Large schools of hungry fish means one thing, lots of action. Mixed in with the redfish has been snook, trout, and flounder.
Along with the great inshore action, just offshore we have had excellent mackerel and shark fishing. Each day we get a bonus species of some kind, lately it has been cobia and tripletail. Both styles of fishing are great for everyone, families with kids or seasoned fishermen looking for a great time.
St. Pete Beach Shark Fishing
Shark Fishing in the St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Maderia Beach area has been red hot. A large amount of bait fish have made their way into our waters and right behind them are all the predators. We have started each day by anchoring over live bottom and chumming. This has produced non stop action on light tackle for cobia, spanish mackerel, kingfish, bonita, jacks, and bluefish. Once all the commotion starts it doesn’t
take long for the sharks to join in. They usually first appear by jumping and chasing after your fish while you are reeling it in. Once they show up we put out a few shark baits and HOLD ON! Most sharks have been blacktip spinner sharks which make incredible jumps but there has been an occasional hammerhead mixed in.
Mackerel and Shark Fishing is Heating Up
A large influx of bait to the St. Pete Beach and Maderia Beach shorelines has brought a decent amount of predators with it. Large blacktip sharks, spanish mackerel, bonita, cobia, and even a few kingfish have made there presence felt this past week and more and more should show up each week going into Fall. Anchoring up and chumming has produced feeding frenzies and have basically turned the water into a fish tank with all the species around, if that doesnt work slow trolling has been the ticket.
